Draft for Ontario legal review

Safety and Meetups Policy

How FlipFit users should arrange safer local exchanges in Ottawa.

Draft notice

This page is draft website copy for FlipFit and is not legal advice. FlipFit should have an Ontario lawyer review the final version before public launch.

Best practices

  • Meet during daylight or early evening.
  • Choose a public, well-lit place with people nearby.
  • Bring a parent, guardian, friend, or trusted adult, especially if under 18.
  • Leave immediately if anything feels wrong.

Ottawa meetup options

Consider busy public places such as libraries, community centres, malls, transit-adjacent public areas, or police-designated safe exchange areas where available. Do not imply police monitoring or official partnership unless confirmed.

Avoid

  • Private homes, bedrooms, apartment units, dorm rooms, vehicles, isolated parking lots, stairwells, parks after dark, or low-traffic transit stops.
  • Sharing live location, exact home address, class schedule, or locker details with strangers.

Red flags

  • They ask if you are alone or pressure you not to involve a guardian.
  • They refuse public meetup options.
  • They ask for deposits, gift cards, suspicious payment links, or off-platform DMs.
  • They request photos unrelated to the item or make sexual/personal comments.

Emergency note

FlipFit reports are not an emergency service. If there is immediate danger, contact emergency services.
